SynopsisMAN ON A WIRE is a spellbinding documentary that chronicles the stunning achievement of one Philippe Petit, a French-born performance artists who walked a hire wire between the South and North Towers of the World Trade Center in New York during the seventies. The stunt--six years in the planning--involved meticulous organization and was completely illegal. Not content attempting the death-defying feat once, Petit would complete the walk 110 floors above the streets of Manhattan eight times, only stopping when he was arrested. Directed by British filmmaker James Marsh (THE KING, WISCONSIN DEATH TRIP), MAN ON WIRE celebrates this truly incredible event and sheds light upon the man that made it happen. I urge you to listen to the commentary by director James Marsh, producer Simon Chinn and executive producer Jonathan Hewes as well as see the interview with Philippe Petit. Very Highly Recommended.Product DescriptionPhilippe Petit Director: James Marsh

American Psycho [Blu-ray]

American Psycho [Blu-ray] Review

4.0 from 5

Excellent performance from Christian. He can do crazy very well. My favorite scene in the whole movie is when he's shooting at the cops and he blows up one of the cars... He stops for a moment and stares at his gun and gives it a sort of "What the hell" look. Perfect, awesome... The second American Psyco is pretty hilarious too... good good.

American Psycho [Blu-ray] Specifications

The Bret Easton Ellis novel American Psycho, a dark, violent satire of the "me" culture of Ronald Reagan's 1980s, is certainly one of the most controversial books of the '90s, and that notoriety fueled its bestseller status. This smart, savvy adaptation by Mary Harron (I Shot Andy Warhol) may be able to ride the crest of the notoriety; prior to the film's release, Harron fought a ratings battle (ironically, for depictions of sex rather than violence), but at the time the director stated, "We're rescuing [the book] from its own bad reputation." Harron and co-screenwriter Guinevere Turner (Go Fish) overcome many of the objections of Ellis's novel by keeping the most extreme violence offscreen (sometimes just barely), suggesting the reign of terror of yuppie killer Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) with splashes of blood and personal souvenirs. Bale is razor sharp as the blank corporate drone, a preening tiger in designer suits whose speaking voice is part salesman, part self-help guru, and completely artificial. Carrying himself with the poised confidence of a male model, he spends his days in a numbing world of status-symbol one-upmanship and soul-sapping small talk, but breaks out at night with smirking explosions of homicide, accomplished with the fastidious care of a hopeless obsessive. The film's approach to this mayhem is simultaneously shocking and discreet; even Bateman's outrageous naked charge with a chainsaw is most notable for the impossibly polished and gleaming instrument of death. Harron's film is a hilarious, cheerfully insidious hall of mirrors all pointed inward, slowly cracking as the portrait becomes increasingly grotesque and insane. --Sean Axmaker

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy & BD-Live) [Blu-ray]

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy & BD-Live) [Blu-ray] Review

3.5 from 5

i completely and inequivocally agree with z hayes (plano, texas) on every aspect that she touched on. Book 6 in the Harry Potter series was my absolute favorite and the movie just did not do it justice. it was a decent movie if you've seen all the movies but never read the books however, if you've read the books it would be hard, if not impossible, to give this movie 5 stars. really, im stretching it to give it four. the added scenes add nothing to the movie and most of the scenes from the book that werent in the movie were vitally important to the plot and progression of the characters and story. im not going to give anything away, i just need to say that the movie was a disappointment. the characters are amazing in that the actors portraying them portray them perfectly and with the necessary depth. my only hope for the final 2 movies is that the directly sticks to the book and doesn't go on about adding more unnecessary and meaningless scenes. given that the final book is in two installments there is no reason not to lay it all out there and just really go for it. more action, more depth, more special effects, more everything. for those of us that have been following the series through 7 books and 6 movies i think it is vitally important to give us what we've been waiting for. if i may say so, we arent looking for the directors interpretation of what the book should have been, we are looking for exactly what the book was laid out on screen in all its glory from start to finish. for me, the whole point of the movie adaptations lays in the success of this last one and by success i mean accuracy, depth, and wow factor. i want to leave the theater feeling like it was all worth it and in this one i really just didn't and that's not even including the disappointment and irritation that stemmed from the fact that my favorite book was a let down on screen.

  • HARRY POTTER & HALF-BLOOD PRINCE BLU-RAY (BLU-RAY DISC)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy & BD-Live) [Blu-ray] Overviews

The sixth installment of the Harry Potter series begins right where The Order of the Phoenix left off. The wizarding world is rocked by the news that "He Who Must Not Be Named" has truly returned, and the audience finally knows that Harry is "the Chosen One"--the only wizard who can defeat Lord Voldemort in the end. Dark forces loom around every corner, and now regularly attempt to penetrate the protected walls of Hogwarts School. This is no longer the fun and fascinating world of magic from the first few books—it's dark, dangerous, and scary.

Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) suspects Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) to be a new Death Eater recruit on a special mission for the Dark Lord. In the meantime, Professor Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) seems to have finally removed the shroud of secrecy from Harry about the dark path that lies ahead, and instead provides private lessons to get him prepared. It's in these intriguing scenes that the dark past of Tom Riddle (a.k.a. Voldemort) is finally revealed. The actors cast as the different young versions of Riddle (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin and Frank Dillane) do an eerily fantastic job of portraying the villain as a child. While the previous movies' many new characters could be slightly overwhelming, only one new key character is introduced this time: Professor Horace Slughorn (with a spot-on performance by Jim Broadbent). Within his mind he holds a key secret in the battle to defeat the Dark Lord, and Harry is tasked by Dumbledore to uncover a memory about Voldemort's darkest weapon--the Horcrux. Despite the long list of distractions, Harry, Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) still try to focus on being teenagers, and audiences will enjoy the budding awkward romances. All of the actors have developed nicely, giving their most convincing performances to date.

More dramatic and significant things go down in this movie than any of its predecessors, and the stakes are higher than ever. The creators have been tasked with a practically impossible challenge, as fans of the beloved J.K. Rowling book series desperately want the movies to capture the magic of the books as closely as possible. Alas, the point at which one accepts that these two mediums are very different is the point at which one can truly enjoy these brilliant adaptations. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is no exception: it may be the best film yet. For those who have not read the book, nail-biting entertainment is guaranteed. For those who have, the movie does it justice. The key dramatic scenes, including the cave and the shocking twist in the final chapter, are executed very well. It does a perfect job of setting up the two-part grand finale that is to follow. --Jordan Thompson
